Oldonyo Lengai Expedition 3 Day

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Arusha, entering the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley. You'll pass through the Engaruka basin, a semi-desert area where you'll get your first views of Oldonyo Lengai. After arriving at your camp on the banks of the Engaresero River, you'll embark on an afternoon trek to beautiful local waterfalls. You will then have time to rest and prepare for the overnight summit bid.

• Accommodation: Tented Camp near Lake Natron

You'll start your climb around midnight to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. The ascent is challenging, but the reward is reaching the peak at dawn to witness the truly unique spectacle of glowing natrocarbonatite lava in the crater. After enjoying the sunrise and the breathtaking views of the Rift Valley, you'll descend back to camp for a well-deserved shower and a late breakfast. The rest of the day is for total rest, followed by dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.

The final day offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion. You will take a guided morning walk around the shores of Lake Natron, a critical breeding ground for millions of flamingos. A local Maasai guide will also lead you on a visit to a Maasai "Boma" village, where you can interact with the community and learn about their fascinating culture and traditions. After a hot lunch at the campsite, you will begin your drive back to Arusha.
